Oh fuck yeah. The trailer for Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here (French title A Beautiful Day) dropped today and I’m pretty excited to see J.P. knock another role out of the park.

From the trailer alone, it seems like we may be seeing something similar to Leon The Professional only this time the lead is arguably one of the strongest talents in modern day cinema, no offense Jean Reno. From the brief clips we see here, the plot seems to coincide pretty well with the 1994 classic.  A congressman hires our boy to get rid of a young hooker, but finds himself on the end of the knife when the hit-man finally gains a conscience. We have a gritty New York setting:

With corrupt cops looking for a girl being protected by Phoenix:

And maybe a couple apartment lobby fights to really seal the deal:

So maybe this is closer to a full-fledged  remake of Leon the Professional. A little bit darker perhaps.Who cares. Totally fine with me, I’ll watch anything Joaquin Phoenix in involved in, and the director isn’t half bad either. I highly recommend Movern Callar if your into real sadistic psycho bitches pulling shady shit. To top it all off, we have what seems to be some stellar cinematography, coming from the same dude from Attack The Block. A couple specifically that caught my eye:

And the icing on the cake? A signature weapon. Fucking hammers baby! Gosling was way to pretty to truly own the hammer in Drive.  It’s a hammer, it’s reserved for burly  men with who rock a greying beard and the remnants of a cleft lip. Excited to see him get into it with these bad boys. You can tell he takes good care and consideration of his hammers too. Real selective.
