“MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew,” the streaming giant and producer Media Rights Capital said Tuesday in a joint statement.
The suspension comes two days after Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp alleged in a BuzzFeed News article that Spacey made sexual advances towards him when Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26. Spacey immediately offered his “sincerest apology” to Rapp via Twitter and used his statement on the matter to come out as a gay man for the first time. The latter move was criticized by many in Hollywood as well as GLAAD, who accused Spacey of using his coming out as a way to “deflect from allegations of sexual assault.”
On Monday, Netflix and MRC issued a statement saying they were “deeply troubled” by the allegations. Executives from both companies traveled to Baltimore on Monday to meet with the cast and crew of the political drama “to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported,” the statement continued. Spacey was not on set at the time, as was previously scheduled.
Yesterday Sheehan wrote about how the Kevin Spacey fallout was continuing with some emmy award he was supposed to get being rescinded and shortly after that Netflix announced it was halting production on the sixth and final season of House of Cards. I’ve seen a few people online complaining that they’re upset they might not get to finish a TV show that they love. To those people I gotta say: Fuck. You.
If part of the price of some scumbag trying to fuck a child is that you don’t get the last season of your TV show then that’s without a doubt hands down worth paying. The show hasn’t been good since season 2 anyways and Kevin Spacey deserves to be ostracized from the industry for his acts if they’re true. Which it’s looking more and more like they are since this morning a second man has come forward saying that Spacey sexually assaulted him. This fucker deserves jail. What I will say about House of Cards is that if the show is canceled Netflix better not fuck over everyone else involved with it. There’s a ton of other actors, actresses, and behind the scenes people that had nothing to do with Spacey’s past and those people don’t deserve to lose their job. I don’t care what the shows are but Netflix better move everyone to another property so they don’t lose out on work.
Also since the last few blogs on site have been pretty heavy I’ll make sure my next one is back to my usual level of nonsense.
