The Best Actress category is roughly 10000X stronger than the Best Actor.
Even with Meryl.
2/13 Frances McDormand (Three Billboards)
16/1 Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird)
33/1 Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water)
50/1 Margot Robbie (I, Tonya)
80/1 Meryl Streep (The Post)
WHO SHOULD WIN- Meryl Streep
Lol. That’d be hilarious.
WHO SHOULD WIN- Sally Hawkins
Sally won’t win. She hasn’t won anything for this role. That Ohio Actors Guild award doesn’t count and you know it. It’s sad because she really did something special here. She was the lead role, tasked with communicating a ton of emotion and turmoil without saying a single word. Jean Dujardin starred in that silent movie in 2012 and won Best Actor… but Sally here did the same thing next to people who were able to speak. Not fair, I say. She deserves more credit than shes getting…
And she had sex with a fish person. No matter what she does in her career, there’s always going to be a scene of her having sex with a fish person. She deserves some hardware for that.
WHO WILL WIN- Frances McDormand
Francis gets the edge here, although I’m still skeptical because she’s not exactly the Academy’s “type”… Remember her Golden Globe speech? Half of it was bleeped out because they were terrified she’d swear, that’s who Francis is (which I love) But that also proves the point that her role was basically just Francis being Francis.
HONORABLE MENTION- Margot Robbie
Have you heard of this girl? 27 years old, beautiful, with the range to play everything from a foreign reporter, trophy housewife, lunatic superhero, and a white trash figure skater. Keep an eye on her. Diamond in the rough situation I think.
